MARGOT LANE
This was the award bestowed on Margaret L. “Margot” Lane last July by the Karen Possehl Women’s Endowment for nontraditional women students at UCCS. Its significance: She hadn’t stopped before that award and she hasn’t stopped since. Lane had long been a working volunteer for a long list of local charities. Then she and her late husband, John, did much more, this time monetarily through the John E. and Margaret L. Lane Foundation. The crowning touch was $4 million for the Lane Center for Academic Health Sciences at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. It opened in February and will include the Lane Family Senior Health Clinic operated by Peak Vista Community Health Centers as well as gerontology wellness and medical programs. In addition, there’s her support of research into pancreatic cancer, from which both her husband and son, Bruce, died.
